Every student can learn. Just not on the same day or in the same way.” - George Evans |
WelcomeTeaching has always been the "it" career for me. I knew teaching was my calling ever since I remember listening to my mother read aloud in her classroom, helping her build bulletin boards, and watching the magical moment on her students' faces as the connections came together. Ever since I can remember it's all I've ever wanted to do (besides that one brief period where I swore I'd be an author). Coming from a family of teachers, it is truly in my blood.
Over the last 14 years I have deepened my pedagogical knowledge of literacy with a Masters Degree and put it directly to use in a variety of classroom settings. After 14 first days of school, thousands of hours of lesson planning, grading, and small group instruction with hundreds of students . . one thing remains the same: teaching is my passion. My "why" is simple. The students. On the hardest of hard days, what keeps me coming back is knowing that it's up to me to show up for my students in every way that I can. Time does not reverse and you can't get these days back. I aim to make every moment count for my students by pushing them to be their best selves, learning what it means to collaborate, support, and encourage each other, and make our time together as engaging and valuable as I can. As my family and I relocate back to my home state of Oregon, I plan to continue to bring my passion for teaching into my classroom and look forward to becoming part of a wonderful new educational community. |
About Me
Growing up in a small Oregon town I yearned to GET OUT and spread my wings. I traveled abroad with my family to visit my sister who was studying in the Philippines. This experience inspired me to study abroad as a junior in high school for a full year in central Mexico. While in Mexico I attended a local high school and lived with several families. During this time I was able to improve my high-school beginner Spanish substantially, and since then have become a fluent speaker. It was this international experience where I began to really understand the variety of world cultures and how big our world really is. After satisfying my desire to experience more than just my small corner of the Pacific Northwest, I now see the world as an adult with children. It's this perspective that has made me realize that back in Oregon is exactly where I want to be.
I met my husband, Luis, in college and knew right away that he was the one for me. After finishing school, and a master's program in literacy we relocated from Reno, Nevada to Las Vegas to be nearer to his family. It was in Las Vegas that we started our family. Our two boys are now 8 and 4 years old. With the oldest headed into 4th grade and the youngest about to start kindergarten, we knew this was the perfect time to make our forever home in Oregon. In my spare time I enjoy crafting, baking, and listening to audiobooks. As a family we enjoy hikes in the outdoors, family game nights and movie nights, and cheering on the Las Vegas Golden Knights NHL team (Go Knights, Go!) |
